Golf Simulation Center Park Ave
The site was formally three separate restaurant spaces combined to create one space at street level, exposing three storefronts on 47th Street side to the city. The Simulation center has a Park Ave address and is located directly above Grand Central Station.
The project required 8 camera-based Golf Simulators, an indoor chipping/putting green, a gym, sled path, retail areas, reception desk, Physical Therapy treatment rooms, men’s and women’s locker rooms, office, and golf bag storage, all to be fitted into a 4,100 sq ft space.
EXD Architecture worked on the concept of movement, with a space that layers different activities throughout the day, week, and weekend and is able to change easily if needed.
Walking into the center storefront, creates a long perspective view that layers the reception, putting green, golf simulation, gym/cardio, and physical therapy.

The exposed ceiling and rubber floors are black to focus attention on the activities and simulator screens. The pendant lights were hung in a diagonal pattern to appear to be moving, drawing the members into the space. All millwork is gray, and walls are a light gray to work well with the black surfaces. The locker rooms have black Kohler fixtures set against white wall tiles.
EXD used the reception desk as an opportunity to really focus on the concept of movement and the need for layered activities. Referencing Eadweard Muybridge’s photographic studies of motion, EXD did studies of how a golf’s body changes before the swing of the golf club.
EXD designed a floating bar top on both sides of the desk so that when members host an event the desk will act as a bar/congregating space where bar stools can slide underneath.
This reception desk accurately portrays the brand intent and sets the tone for the experience beyond.
