STATIC/ DYNAMIC: Furniture Reception
For a golf retail brand that is all about movement, we wanted to have a place where we could layer program without breaking up the open space but instead having a static anchor point that could perform dynamic tasks.
EXD used the reception desk as an opportunity to deeply integrate the concept of movement as layered activities, drawing inspiration from Eadweard Muybridge’s photographic studies of motion.
Applying insights from neuroscience and 24-hour programming, EXD conducted studies on how a golfer’s body changes in preparation for a swing. Each segment of the movement was measured and used in the structure of the desk to see one continuous movement.
The result is a meticulously designed piece of furniture, featuring a floating bar top on both sides of the desk. This innovative approach ensures that the desk seamlessly transforms into a dynamic bar with congregating spaces when members host events. Beyond its functional aspects, this reception desk serves as a tangible reflection of the brand’s intent and sets the tone for the immersive experience that follows.
